Route: Get on the bus, head to the beautiful countryside of Shanghai. Start cycling from a little town, along a tranquil river, called Taipuhe, where there is not much traffic on the road, enjoy the lovely country scenery while pedaling, golden rice, colorful leaves, nice bridges and rivers, interesting houses, Then we will arrive at an ancient canal town called Xitang -- the most quiet one among all the water towns, not like some other towns which are over developed and always over loaded with tourists.
After a nice country meal, we will explore this ancient town, stroll the narrow streets. Our guide will lead you through the town's history, pointing out the significance of each architectural detail and their place within the theory of Chinese fengshui. Visit the local museums of wine, buttons, bricks and exhibition of root carvings one by one.
Stay overnight in a house which was built in the Ming dynasty and has a history of more than 6 hundred years. The watertown is more beautiful when night falls with red lanterns hanging up everywhere. Have some local tea by the water and a nice chat with friends, maybe a night cruise on the river.
Wake up early in the morning with the town in thin mist. Water flows beneath the bridges and tiled houses reflected inverserly in the water. Xitang is like a poem and everybody can be a poet. Get back to Shanghai around noon after a nice country meal.
