One of our Beijing China Great Wall tours, this trekking tour is for Great Wall enthusiasts. The hike covers seven Great Wall sections in five days.
You will be able to appreciate different types of Great Wall architecture and military designs over the five days. The hike enables you to explore some of the most beautiful sections of the Wall that most people will never get a chance to see. Nevertheless, this excursion is not for the faint of heart; it provides for a good physical challenge! The tour in a nutshell:
You will start from Simatai Great Wall, walk to Jinshanling Great Wall in Hebei province. The next day, you will hike to Gubeikou Great Wall, then transfer to Mutianyu Great Wall and walk all the way to the Secret Great Wall. After the hike goes to the Xiangshui Lake Great Wall and the tour ends at Huanghua Great Wall.

ITINERARY
Day 1 Gubeikou - Jinshanling Great Wall (Hiking Level: Challenging)
The first part of trek will be very challenging. We start trekking west towards General Tower in Gubeikou. Note that you will not be able to hike the entire route on the wall. Since we will be passing an off limits restricted military zone, we will steer away from the Wall for a short part of the hike. Picnic lunch in one of the beacon towers. Beacon towers provide a cool refuge on a hot day on the Wall. Continue the trek to the Jinshanling part of the Wall. You will get to Jinshanling just in time to relax and enjoy the breathtaking sunset. Stay overnight stay at a guesthouse at the bottom of the Wall. Take advantage of your nights out on the wall to enjoy some of the best star watching.
Day 2 Jinshanling - Simatai Great Wall (Hiking Level: Easy)
Get up early and climb up the Wall to catch the sunrise. After breakfast at hostel, you're starting the trekking to Simatai. You will cross a bridge at the start of the hike and you will hike up steep steps straight up on a mountain range. Although a demanding section, you will be rewarded with some spectacular views of the Great Wall snaking away on the surrounding mountain range.
Transfer to Xiangshui lake Great Wall, overnight stay in a local village, where you can take a shower, have a nice dinner, and sleep well.
Day 3 Xiangshuihu Lake - Jiankou Great Wall (Hiking Level: Moderate)
Then we'll start our Great Wall trek on this part built during the Ming dynasty period, unlike the commercialized Badaling section which was renovated for tourists. Some 10,000 visitors go on a daily basis to Badaling, making it one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world. The part we take you too has kept its original state; people who want to get away from the crowds and see the wild and remote sections of the Great Wall will immediately fall in love with it. Continuing our ascending, we will pass a couple of watchtowers, always surrounded by isolated, beautiful scenery. The next step is to stop for a picnic, then descend a bit before we take another big climb, up to our highest tower today; The Beijing Knot. This is the meeting point of two different converging sections of the Great Wall and allows us to see the Wall shaped like a bended bow. You will be able to enjoy the great view offered by the unique shape of the Wall here, have a picture with, as local hikers have baptized it, the "Lonely Pine" (a pine tree that is right in the middle of the wall). After that we'll then take a small side path, head down to the valley, arriving at a small village. Welcomed by a hospitable local family, we can enjoy a tasty family cooked meal and sleep soundly nonetheless but just beneath the original Great Wall!
Day 4 Jiankou Great Wall to Mutianyu Great Wall (Hiking Level: Moderate)
Wake up to the sound of birds singing and the smell of porridge. After an all-round breakfast, we'll take a small path up to the Great Wall again, this time starting from a watchtower called Zhenbei tower, literally meaning defending the north. The view here is called "The Eagle Flies Facing Upward". This observation tower appears extremely high as it was set up on a mountain which forms the highest section of the Great Wall. Therefore, when an eagle flies there, it can only do so facing upwards before reaching the top of the tower.
Many of our customers who take this hike towards the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall often comment on how amazed they feel by the impressive view. On this third day we will hike on the wall for about 4 hours, with quite a bit of descending involved. Later on we will get to a very famous restored section of Great wall, called Mutianyu Great Wall, where we will see tourists and be able to take the cable car, looking back along the miles of wall we have covered since the day before, hopefully with a great feeling of pride!
Day 5 Huanghuacheng (Yellow Flower) Great Wall & Ming Tombs (Hiking Level: Moderate)
We will visit a beautiful un-restored part of the Wall known as Yellow Flower. After a 1.5 hours drive to the Great wall, you will be able to climb up this non modern Great Wall section. In a nutshell, this hike with spectacular views consists of walking up the highest tower, then descending to a small village where we will be picked up by a bus. The hike takes 2 hours and will be followed by a relaxing authentic country meal with cold beer. We will then proceed to driving to the Ming tombs, visit Changling, the earliest and largest of the Ming tombs dating back from the year 1413 AD, and get to know its intriguing history and origins.
