Discover the beauty of Lhasa in this Tibetan trip.
Itinerary:
Day 1-Day 2 Train ride from Beijing to Lhasa
In about 47 hours, you will cross Xian and run through the Qinghai-Tibet plateau, on the world highest railway, climbing from 2,829m above sea level to 3,641m at Lhasa. At 20:58 pm we will arrive in Lhasa.
Our tour guide will pick you up from the train station and transfer you to the hotel. Note that Lhasa is 3650 meters above sea level, and it may take some time to get used to the thinner air in such a high altitude area.
Day 3 The Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street
After breakfast, we will visit the Potala Palace, one of the most famous architectural works of Tibet, which proudly stands on the top of the
Red Hill in Lhasa. It was first built in the 7th century. In the mid-17th century it was rebuilt by the 5th Dalai Lama to its present size, and since
then it became the Winter Palace of the Dalai Lamas.
The Potala Palace is divided into two sections, namely, the Red Palace and White Palace.
Experience the tranquility of the Jokhang Temple. It is almost impossible to put into words the sense of holiness
that embodies this 1300 year old monastery. It is here that you can see Tibetan worshippers display passionate
commitment and dedication to their beliefs. Devotees pour yak butter into butter lamps that light the narrow altars.
The rest of the late afternoon can be spent at the colorful local Tibetan markets, full of different spices, local instruments
and clothing, Barkhor Street, where you will be rewarded with amazing sights of men and women dressed in very different
clothes, most of them coming from the outlying regions of Tibet. Spend time to view the many thangkha and antique stores
in the fascinating old city.
Day 4 Lhasa/ Yamddok YumTso,/ Lhasa
Early morning drive to Yamddok Yum Tso, one of the three biggest
islands which gives homes to flocks of wild ducks, goose and other birds.
In the afternoon drive back to Lhasa.
Day 5 Norbulingka (Summer Palace), Sangmu Village
We will visit Norbulingka on the third day, a beautiful garden built very near a medical spring outside Lhasa. The construction of Norbulingka started in 1751
and its present appearance is that attained from when it was last renovated in 1956. These gardens were the host to the Dalai Lamas from March to
September each year, as they moved their residence from the Potala Palace to Norbulingka. This practice started with the first Dalai Lama till the seventh.
Later you can wander around in a local Tibetan village, Sangmu village and see the countryside, getting to know a bit of the local lifestyle before staying
overnight at Lhasa.
